in association with De Montfort University’s Cultural eXchanges festival and LCB DEPOT

Dr Greg Scorzo in conversation with Claire Fox – Director of the Institute of Ideas,  followed by an audience discussion.

Claire is a panellist on BBC Radio 4’s The Moral Maze and a commentator on developments in culture, education, media and free speech issues on TV and radio programmes in the UK. She is author of a book on free speech, I Find That Offensive (Biteback, 2016.)

Free speech on campus? With the rise of Safe Spaces, Trigger Warnings and No Platforming in UK universities are we stifling debate, freespeech and academic freedom. Are we at danger of disappearing into echo chambers and not being able to hear views we disagree with.

Should students debate and persuade or are they really a generation of snowflakes? Can we no longer cope with listening to our adversaries? Are universities practicing a new form of censorship? How important is free speech?

Are you fed up with the polarised black and white thinking often caused by those social media echo chambers? ‘Culture on the Offensive’ run fun, informal, sociable and thought provoking evening talks and discussions practicing ‘The art of Thinking.’

Food and drink (with bar) from Grays Coffee Bar and Kitchen.

Watch clips and  listen to a talk led by the entertaining and insightful philosopher, Dr Greg Scorzo. Then enjoy a conversation between him and Claire Fox critiquing many of the issues raised, all leading to an audience discussion. After that carry on with some long rambling conversations in the bar.

Challenge and develop your personal world view, and unravel your thought processes

The ‘Art of Thinking’ evenings centre around current cultural trends in the contemporary digital age, and focus on YouTube vloggers and videos and film clips.
